Powering a more sustainable future | JELD-WEN makes progress toward net zero goal

From electric fleets to renewable energy sourcing, JELD-WEN is transforming its operations to meet ambitious sustainability goals and lead the building products industry toward a cleaner future.

At JELD-WEN, sustainability isn’t just a goal — it's a guiding principle that shapes how we design, manufacture and deliver building products. As part of our commitment to environmental stewardship, we’re making measurable progress toward our sustainability goals with a clear focus on reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and advancing energy-efficient practices across our global footprint.

Electrifying operations: A strategic move toward net zero

Our journey to net zero GHG emissions is powered by a multi-pronged strategy: increasing energy efficiency, investing in renewable energy, and electrifying equipment and vehicles. This includes transitioning powered industrial trucks (PITs), such as forklifts, from fossil fuels to electric power, an impactful move that reduces emissions and supports cleaner operations.

Penrith site sets the standard for sustainable manufacturing

JELD-WEN's Penrith, UK, facility exemplifies our commitment to achieve net zero GHG. After upgrading to LED lighting and high-efficiency motors, the site recently replaced all of its forklifts with electric models. Because the Penrith plant sources 100% renewable electricity, this forklift transition eliminates GHG emissions from one of the site’s last remaining fossil fuel-dependent systems.

California sites drive emissions reductions through innovation

Across the U.S., several JELD-WEN sites are also making strides toward cleaner operations. Five facilities in California have enrolled in the state’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) program, thanks to their adoption of electric forklift fleets. The LCFS program supports:

  • Reducing carbon intensity of transportation fuels
  • Promoting renewable and low-carbon alternatives to petroleum
  • Enhancing energy security by decreasing reliance on fossil fuels
  • Improving air quality and eliminating greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector

A future built on responsibility

From electrifying equipment to sourcing sustainable materials, every step we take brings us closer to a future where our operations are fully aligned with the planet’s needs. We’re proud of the progress made by our team in Penrith and our LCFS-enrolled facilities, and we remain committed to scaling these efforts across our global network.
