JELD-WEN Europe Reimagines Grey as an Architectural Anchor in Contemporary Interiors

German portfolio expansion reflects wider European shift toward layered, performance-led neutrals

Solihull, UK – JELD-WEN Europe, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of interior and exterior doors and door sets, has identified grey as one of the defining architectural tones shaping contemporary interiors across European markets.

Once viewed as a neutral backdrop, grey is increasingly being used as a deliberate design tool. Across residential and light commercial environments, designers and specifiers are moving toward layered neutrals that prioritise cohesion, longevity and adaptability. Rather than acting as a filler between black and white, grey is now being selected to anchor spatial flow, soften transitions and create visual continuity throughout connected spaces.

This shift reflects a broader movement toward calm, durable design in response to increasingly complex living environments. Interiors are being shaped with long-term relevance in mind, placing greater emphasis on tonal harmony and material performance.

Reflecting this wider European trend, JELD-WEN Germany has introduced two new structured grey finishes within its DuriTop and Primata collections, Mondgrau SM and Himmelgrau SM. The launch forms part of JELD-WEN Europe’s continued investment in colour and surface innovation across its interior door portfolio.

Mondgrau SM offers a lighter, refined grey that enhances natural light and integrates seamlessly into minimalist, Scandinavian inspired and urban interiors.

Himmelgrau SM provides a deeper, more architectural tone, designed to introduce subtle definition and balance within contemporary schemes.

Both finishes combine modern colour direction with high-performance surface technology. The structured SM surface delivers a lacquer-like appearance while offering enhanced resistance to scratches, abrasion and impact, supporting durability in both residential and project applications.

“Interior doors play a far more significant role in spatial design than they did even a decade ago,” said Ingo Heger, Vice President and General Manager Central Europe at JELD-WEN Europe. “As designers move toward layered neutrals and architectural continuity, surface quality and durability become just as important as colour. Our structured grey finishes reflect this balance between aesthetic refinement and everyday resilience.”

By expanding its structured grey portfolio, JELD-WEN Europe reinforces its commitment to aligning design relevance with long-term performance across its interior door systems.

As grey continues to evolve from background tone to architectural anchor, JELD-WEN Europe is positioning interior doors not simply as functional components, but as integral elements within cohesive, future-ready spaces.
